Artist Statement:
As a child, I loved to color and play with paint, but it wasn’t until after I had kids of my own and they were all in school that I began to get serious about spending time in artistic endeavors. I began by joining with my sister to start a mural painting business. When she decided to leave the business, I did a few murals on my own and then moved into painting on canvas and never looked back!
I am a self-taught (mostly) artist who enjoys learning and experiencing new things. I am at my happiest when the weather is warm and there are beautiful things to see, hear, smell, taste, and touch around me. I love attempting to capture the amazing beauty I see everywhere I look in creation. My aim is to paint flowers that make you want to touch them and smell them, food that makes you want to eat it, places that make you want to go there, and people and animals that make you want to meet them or at least learn their story. When I paint specific people or pets, I want to capture their essence. I want their family and friends to easily recognize the subject.
I like to paint both realistic and abstract pieces. I am exploring different mediums and I am working to learn techniques that will help me put onto the canvas what I see in my head. When I graduated from crayons and construction paper, I began painting with Acrylics and have now tried my hand at watercolor, gauche, colored pencil, chalk pencil, and mixed media. Most recently, I have begun learning to paint in oil and have found that I love it!
I am grateful to God for whatever talent He has placed in me and for the good health and well-being He has given me to be able to spend time doing something that brings me (and hopefully others) such joy! I pray that I will honor Him in whatever I create and in whatever I do.
